Digging and Dealing in eighteenth century Rome
An examination in detail of fifty excavation sites in and around Rome that were the projects of British artist-entrepreneurs and fifty biographies of the people involved in the dealing, exporting and collecting of antiquities. In two volumes, the second volume being a collection of over 200 letters from dealers to clients that discuss the world of the connoisseur in the mid 18th c in Rome and London. Illustrated with maps and over 200 photographs.
